It was a mid-summers afternoon, and I was walking in the shallows of the shore and all of a sudden, hundreds if not thousands of mackerel started filling up the shallow water I was wading through. When I was younger, I spent a huge amount of time on the southern coast of Wales, particularly in a coastal town called Tywyn. What was your most memorable moment in/ by the ocean? My main concern regarding the future of our oceans is unsustainable human activities that have led to marine pollution (plastics, noise & disturbance), overfishing/bycatch/exploitation, climate change (temperature/acidification), habitat degradation/loss and, agricultural/aquacultur run-off, dredging and dumping of chemicals/general waste from ships. What concerns you most about the future of your oceans? Humanity needs to recognise that equality is key to existence and the removal of the act of speciesism, our oceans would soon recover back to their full health. Without global efforts, the balance would be lost, resulting in the loss of our beautiful oceans. Unfortunately, we have managed to exploit the ocean for our own financial gain, which is why conservation is needed.

We have only explored 5% of the ocean, leaving the remaining 95% un-explored so there is a lot about the ocean we still do not yet understand.

Why do you think ocean conservation is important?ħ0% of the Earth’s surface is covered by the ocean and 97% of the Earth’s water is found within the ocean, so the ocean in itself allows for the existence of humanity whether we know it or not. Firstly, how can you not love the ocean? 60% of the oxygen we breathe is produced directly from the sea so for that I feel obligated to protect such a powerful, influential and beautiful environment that has not only changed my life, but it also gave me meaning.
